Crystal Care Guide
Crystal Care Guide
Every crystal in your collection benefits from regular cleansing and recharging. Below is the simple, evidence-based routine we follow for every stone we sell — written so a complete beginner can follow it without buying any extra equipment.
Why cleanse a crystal at all?
"Cleansing" in the crystal community means resetting a stone after heavy use — for example, after a long meditation, after carrying it through a stressful day, or after another person handles it. Whether you treat this as energetic maintenance or simply as a mindfulness ritual, the steps remove physical dust and salt residue and give you a moment to reconnect with the piece.
Method 1 — Selenite contact (safest for all stones)
Place the crystal on top of a selenite slab or beside a selenite tower for 6–12 hours. Selenite is the only crystal that does not require cleansing itself, which is why we recommend our Selenite Skyscraper Tower Set as a foundation piece — every other crystal in your collection can be reset on it.
Method 2 — Moonlight bath
Place stones on a windowsill from sunset to sunrise on the night of a full moon. Best for: clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz, selenite, moonstone. Avoid: prolonged sunlight (next section).
Method 3 — Sound bath
Ring a Tibetan singing bowl or tuning fork close to the crystal for 30 seconds. The vibration is non-destructive and works for delicate or water-soluble stones.
What NOT to do
- Do not soak amethyst, citrine, or rose quartz in direct sunlight for more than 1 hour. UV will fade these stones permanently.
- Do not submerge selenite, halite, or kyanite in water. These are soft (Mohs ≤ 3.5) and dissolve.
- Do not use salt water on iron-bearing stones (hematite, pyrite, magnetite) — they will rust.
How to charge a crystal with intent
Hold the cleansed stone in your dominant hand. Speak (out loud or silently) one specific intention — "I will focus during my 9 AM meeting" beats vague wishes. Place the stone where you'll see it during that activity. Repeat weekly.
Specific care by crystal type
- Amethyst geode — dust with a soft brush; never use ultrasonic cleaners. See: Natural Amethyst Geode Slab.
- Selenite wand — wipe with a dry microfiber cloth; never water. See: Selenite Cleansing Wand.
- Suncatcher prisms — leaded crystal; clean monthly with a dry cloth to maintain rainbow clarity. See: Crystal Suncatcher Prism Set.
- Chakra tree of life — wire-wrapped; cleanse on selenite, never submerge. See: 7 Chakra Tree of Life.
How often?
Cleanse weekly if you handle the stone daily. Cleanse immediately after another person touches it, or after using it in a meditation that addressed grief, anger, or chronic stress.
